Guess who's having a bundle of joy!?!?!

Well, in case this picture doesn't speak for itself... Richard and Amber are having a baby!!!!!! We were so excited to FINALLY announce it yesterday to our parents and families. We have known since our 5 month anniversary, Dec. 2, and Amber went in for an ultrasound on Monday the 21st. Everything looks great, and our little one is due on July 31! We told Amber's parents by changing the words to "We Three Kings" and singing to them over the phone. (We three Heywoods...) They thought that was clever. Then, at Richard's parents, we said we had had family pictures taken, but no time to mail them out, so we handed them an envelope with the ultrasound pictures. So fun! We are just so excited to start our family, and can't wait to meet our new addition! Hope you all had a Merry Christmas! We love you!

Hey all, This is a lame excuse for an invitation to Brocks Baptism but it snuck up on us all of a sudden. I didn't even realize it was so soon until the ward executive secretary came up and asked when a good time for his meeting with the bishop would be. So, long story longer, his baptism is going to be on January 3rd at 9:00 am. I will get invitations out so you will have the address.

Some things that keep Austin busy:

He made a longboard with his Priest Quorum. He worked really hard and did just what he envisioned. Isn't it so cool?? He took logos off t-shirts from Youth Conference (Rock Solid), the Trek (No toil nor labor Fear), and the Priest Qourum shirt (DC 4).

He is an ultimately intense Ultimate Frisbee player. 

They play twice a week.

And last week he did his 2nd triathlon.

The time has arrived that I should start asking questions... even though my mother says not to ask too many questions so close to Christmas!  So, I'll just ask one! Anywho, I have had my interviews and my mission papers are in Salt Lake's possession!  I plan to have my call in my hands by about the 18th of December, and I wish to know from each individual who has the privilege of writing on this blog to make a guess and post it! Shining moments: One blessed by all Published: Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 Laura White is confined to a wheelchair and has limited ability to communicate, the results of a car accident when she was 10 years old. She is an active, spiritual young woman in the Prairie 13th Ward, West Jordan Utah Prairie Stake. When she turned 16 years old in August and moved into the Laurel class, her leaders sensed her desire to earn her Young Womanhood medallion, according to Suzanne Rentmeister, the ward's Young Women president. There was no thought that the award's requirements would be adapted to Laura's abilities, but would be met as outlined. To do so, the leaders called upon the ward's other 23 young women. They were asked if they would be willing to join together in meeting every requirement on Laura's behalf, and do it in the 10 weeks before Young Women in Excellence Night. That meant completing six value experiences and one value project in each of the seven Young Women values, a task that can easily take several years. There were rules, Sister Rentmeister said: No one was forced to participate, and "the young women would have to sacrifice their time and efforts for Laura and not double count it on their own personal progress." The young women unanimously voted to support the project, Sister Rentmeister said. Laura's parents — Doug and Eva — attended the Young Women in Excellence Night to hear 12-year-old daughter Amy speak, knowing nothing of the project on Laura's behalf. Sister Ann Dibb of the Young Women General Presidency was among the many others in attendance. Everyone joined Brother and Sister White in tears of joy as Laura was presented her medallion, attended by Amy who had helped coordinate the effort without her parents' knowledge. In her talk, Amy spoke of the project, the Young Women values and of Laura's example in her life. Sister Dibb spoke, commending the Young Women and encouraging them to continue in such a spirit of service the rest of their lives. Sister Rentmeister said that when Laura is really happy about something, she gives a "thumbs up" sign. Laura joyfully gave the thumbs up as she wore her medallion. The young women of the ward, including three who are not members of the Church, touched many hearts, including Sister Rentmeister's. Elder Wirthlin

I was saddened to realize that Elder Wirthlin passed away last night. Surprised? No. And actually happy for him. I am so thankful for his life, his devotion, and his humor. 

When I was in a Primary Presidency several years ago, he came to visit our stake for Stake Conference. The Stake President, Terry Turk, asked us to spend the few weeks prior to conference learning all we could about him so the he would be "our apostle." That exercise truly endeared him to me. I love that man. Every time he spoke in the past 10 years, I felt that somehow he belonged a little bit to me. We've had this little connection, he and I. He has spoken directly to me many times.  Oh, you too?? Hmm. Well. . . today I want to say, loud and clear, 

"Come what may, and Love it!!!"

Fun Religious Thoughts

There is a Lutheren church near by that always has the cutest sayings on their sign out front. Some of the cute ones, I can remember, are:

"God answers Knee-mail"

"You don't have anything to be thankful for? Check your pulse."

"Can't sleep? Don't count sheep, talk to the shepherd."

I really like going past to see what they have on the board. Hope you like them. If I see any other good ones, maybe I will post them also.

Hope vs Worry vs Faith

Hope is the anticipation that the outcome will be good.

Worry is the anticipation that the outcome will be bad.

Faith is the anticipation that whatever the outcome, it will be for our good.

Christmas Countdown

I found this list, and I really want our family to follow this calendar. What a great way to get into the CHRISTmas spirit!!  My niece put it into calendar form. I tried to bring it over from her blog so you would be able to click on it to make it larger and print it if you'd like.  It didn't work. November 28: Decide what gift you're giving to Christ this year. (service to others, working on a personal weakness, etc.) Write it down and put it in the Christmas box. 

November 29: Attend the temple or plan when you will attend. 

November 30: At church, talk to someone new or who you don't know well. 

December 1:  Visit JesusChrist.lds.org. Read one of the articles or watch one of the multimedia presentations. 

December 2: Call a friend or family member you haven't spoken with in a while. 

December 3: Study your scriptures 15 minutes longer than usual.

December 4: Do an act of service for a family member or friend. 

December 5: Offer a prayer of gratitude.

December 6: Study The Living Christ. Memorize one of the sentences. (Study this every day next week and keep memorizing sentences.)

December 7: Listen to or watch The First Presidency Christmas Devotional. Listen for one principle that you can work on. Write down one thing you're going to do this week to live that principle. Share this with your family, and follow up with each other later in the week. 

December 8: Write down your beliefs about Christ. 

December 9: Brighten a stranger's day. 

December 10: Share the Christmas video (the one with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing…) with a friend.

December 11: Think about one way you can magnify your church calling. Put your idea into action. 

December 12: Study Matthew chapters 1 and 2.

December 13: Pray for someone in need. Ponder about what you can do to help that person. Do it. 

December 14: Visit the elderly or home bound.

December 15: Get to know a neighbor—take him or her a treat. 

December 16: Send a note or email to someone. 

December 17: Study the lyrics to a Christmas carol. 

December 18: Read another article on JesusChrist.lds.org. 

December 19: Pray for safety in your or others' Christmas travels. 

December 20: Memorize your favorite scripture about Christ. 

December 21: Write in your journal about how the Lord has blessed you this year. 

December 22: Look at Christmas lights! Take a neighbor to see the temple lights.

December 23: Make gingerbread houses, and think about how you can keep the Christmas spirit in your home year round.

December 24: Study Luke chapter 2.

December 25: Talk to someone about the gift you gave to the Savior this holiday season.

Triathlon results

   1    683     Austin Heywood!!!                                                                                                             Okay, so I've been trying to get Austin to post his triathlon results. He won't. Here I am to brag about his first place win :)                                                        

Biking is definitely his strength. Enough of a strength to make up for his weak link. . . swimming. He had a great time! This is his first race, but something tells me it won't be his last. He is already figuring out how he can improve his transition times, as well as his running and swimming.                                   

He has been doing some of his training with a friend, Shalae. She also won 1st in her division. And yes, there were more than just them in their divisions, just in case you were wondering.                                

WooHoo!! Way to go Austin!!!
